Uterine Fibroid are non-cancerous tumors that form within the walls of a woman’s uterus. They usually form in various sizes; some can be as tiny as a full stop while some can get as large as the size of a grape fruit. Most women with fibroid never get to know they have one. Some get to discover the presence of fibroid during their routine pelvic examination and in most cases fibroid tumors causes no symptoms for some women but some usually experience heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding between period, constant pain or pressure in the abdomen or pelvis, frequent urination, increased virginal discharge, lower back pain and pain during sexual intercourse.
Fibroid usually do not interrupt the menstrual cycle but they can cause infertility or miscarriage.Fibroid tends to form during a woman’s late thirties and early forties and shrink after menopause. Please do note that fibroid is not in any way associated with cancer and those not increase the woman’s risk of uterine cancer, so banish the fear of any linkage to cancer. There is no cause for alarm fibroid is a natural occurrence in every woman and it’s estimated that 20 to 50 percent of women of reproductive age have fibroids. The fluctuation in levels of estrogen and progesterone, the two main female sex hormones influences fibroid growth. However while all women produce estrogen, only some do develop the fibroidtumors. Fibroid is most common among African women. The causes of fibroid are still unknown but some factors can influence the growth of fibroid, which are as followed:
- Hormones: Estrogen and progesterone are the hormones produced by the ovaries. They cause the uterine lining to regenerate during each menstrual cycle and may stimulate the growth of fibroids.
- Family History: Sometimes fibroid may be genetics i.efibroids may run in the family. If your mother, sister, or grandmother has a history of this condition, you may develop it as well.
- Pregnancy: Pregnancy increases
